Kennedy Audio is well established in Milwaukee/Madison area: These are not kits. 18 inch $550 mounted in box cost, highest SPL per watt speeaker for the money on Earth. 30% more SPL than a new 2242 speaker.
This is possible using a narrower gap in the magnet, (2240). We machine frames/add spacers. Xmax/xlim is the same, 8.5mm/13mm but Alfa 18's take 1200 real watts versus 800 stock 2242. Stock JBL will take 1200 watts intermittantly due to lighter suspension.
Speaker only 18 inch Alfas base price $450 - 4 or more $375. 18lb magnet 1/2" top plated. Trade-ins 2242h worth $150 working, $50 not. Recone on Alfa $90 up to 1 year, then $125.
Due to the 23 pound magnet the definition and 2242 clarity are superior to 2241/2240/Alfa kits or xMax increasing kit transitions we sell.
However, similar results in 12 and 15 inch ALPHA full speakers can be expected due to our use of a 2242 voice coil mounted in kits for magnets that accept 4 inch diameter coils.
The 12 inch is the perfect percussion high velocity driver ($285).
Kennedy Audio is a B-Stock kit builder, buying same stock seconds as JBL OEM stock but hand reworking each piece as needed. I represent the supply chain and am a life long Quality Assurance / Preventive Management Pro.
Sound stages with our brightest and best sounding tube amplifiers for charity events in Wisconsin $1700.
Sound states setup with our full vast inventory $1200 per day on a daily basis, 3 days for $800 per day.

Orig M-roll form in all sizes.........................Argon filled transponcers - the first magnetic correction compatible transducers.......
For kit orders of 4 or more...
You MUST email us after your order IF YOU WANT 'Accordian' or 'M-roll' - linen surrounds. Cost is same, $5.95ea.
Accordian is used for less paper muffled overtoned sound, faster action but allow more movement thus less power handling.
The bell modes of the speaker are changed by the surround type. Again our terminology may differ from other sellers.
Kennedy Audio, or KitBL, want our customers to have the finest rebuilds in
3 and 4 inch voice coils.
For personal check or money order. PC is 12 day clear.
We have changed our shipping methods to minimize extra fees.
We recommend that all
crossed over magnets for reconing be scanned with an application like tricorder 5.11 by Ian Cameron Smith on an Android type cellphone.
Our kits are drop in so that we rarely have sell voice coils seperately which enables precision assembly.
PACKAGE - WHAT TO LOOK FOR: (besides our policy of refunding money not actually spent on shipping.....
0.1) If you want factory ORIGINAL KITs, just ask. We can get them for you at extra cost.
1) the gasket material is taped into a corner in a little bundle.
2) the shim is usually .010 - it is a purple piece of paper wrapped around the voice coil
we can supply pastic ones but they cost too much. So we use paper that is accurate to plus and minus .002 inch.
Most JBL shims are .010 but a few are .015 or .007 and even .005. This is
why the cardboard insert that you can throw away is used during shippment.
Keep it in place until the last moment when you are ready to install.
3) the dome is in tissue paper at the top of the box. We try to ship within 5 days of payment.
4) We DO modify voice coils in some kits. Our normal supplied is JBL certified but when doing 4 inch voice coils
for high performance kits, for example the 2228 kit, we are forced to make adjustments. JBL made 4 inch coils
that have the same inner diameter as most other speaker models and coils, but in their 18 inch models
the outer diameter of the gap is .024 inch larger. This causes interference fit it anyone tried to put the
larger JBL coils into JBL 15 and 12 inch diameter models. Don't let anyone say it can't be done.
If you get to know us or our franchise plans, you will see that we do the impossible several different ways.
In a world made of fine money, spare money, fun money and short time, there is no other team like ours!

Item0.3 is AAHRAY>AAHRAY Monitor Towers, 500W RMS per channel conditioned signal JBL 2123h, 101dB, Two bass & CHOICE of UPPER CABINET midrange carbon planars in flying configuration with specular angle optimal enclosure, cast iron mounts, precision retaining fit rings and bass flyback diodes. (for 4X 2123h )
The transponcer option systems are 5 way. Balanced and Tip/Sleeve input jacks. Dual front transponcers driven by dual JBL pair (hi-sens option) or economy version, still all JBL magnets. Side evanescent 360deg. duo-dishes firing toward ea other.
Mid-High lotus flower uses either JBL 2402 type with evanescent horizontal bell type 360 deg waveguides or a good compression driver and piezo tweeter pair. There are 7 driven coils per column; 14 total. 8 metalic.
Counting the Pentewere phase coherent re-radiator, then it comes out 8 metal and 8 organic for a balanced sounding system. The 50 watt version uses vintage design (1972) JBL 2420 driver and 2408 tweeter, to please the golden age of rock audiophile crowd. The 2420/2470 is a 6 pound magnet that takes up the side double dish space on the upper cabinet, so that the Mehen passive raditor space on the bass section is filled with a 12 inch woofer to boost midbass SPL. This is the version you want if you perfer 'air moving' bass sounding systems.
Capacitor usage and protection plan for side dish uses dual line transformers is not possible in the 50 watt version due to size of the 2420/2408 transponcer. All come with wrought iron hangers and all-around superior mechanically secure support. Roadable. The design anticipates easy disassembly using bolts and nuts and easey re-construction.
The transponcers option uses a special rigid Cellulose Nitrate diaphragm driven by JBL 2408H and 2418H drivers produce superior treble, almost snowy fresh bright music and DTS like movie sound from ordinary PCM, even with heavy duty current class-D amplifiers, not possible before with straight wired resistor and capacitive protected compression drivers. Our internal protection system also never introduces compression as a means of diverting current from the coil. Ask about adding a subwoofer for a hard to beat Dolby 5.1 surround system, we will discount it and customize it to your needs at our cost.
For those who wish to make a 5.1 surround system using the lower speakers for the rear channels, the 4x2123 is ideal as it does not require low frequencies to be routed to the lower speakers.
This image of the 2123h special modifications for the AAHRAY system shows pole pieces on the back side; they are double layer Faraday rings in copper and stainless heat transfer mesh are on both the front and back of the inner cylinder or pole. This helps cool and also reduces distortion and contains and shields the field. They allow the 4x2123 model or the bass section of the transponcer version to handle 500 watts RMS continued (clean) power per speaker.
Be advised that while the option of 150 Watts in trasponcer offers more power handling, the continuos high power may cause the neodymium magnet side of the transponcer to power compress. In neodymium this can reduce output almost to zero, howerver the 2218H has stability and stamina. Theators running constant high DB - buy 2123x4 vers signal setup.

Coil rub. Wire has contacted magnet. Usually ascribed to spider overflexure or spider storage warp. Preventable, Repairable; its a lifespan issue.
The coil with more wire was marked 'J' type and still has DCR of 5.8 while the '2123J' shown with rubout is DCR 6.6 with less length of wire.
Original JBL nomenclature used the 'J' type of any speaker to mean 16 ohms while the 'H' following the model means an 8 ohms voice coil. 4 ohm speakers are designated by 'G'.
An HPL after the model number means that the speaker had a 8 ohm coil with a rubber magnet protector. This nomenclature is still valid and the items listed here are
using the H and the J symbols because Kennedy Audio Productions runs auctions on eBay.com and the website, as different seller service, tries to keep
current and well matched to the auction inventory that is posted on eBay at any given time. This is not a perfect process, so be aware if you
use the dropdown box to specify an 8 ohm speaker for say a 2123J cone that was removed, you will be then buying a 2123H replacement. The suffix 'A' meant two things:
is an older method of refering to ohms, as is 'B' for paper former speakers - but these are old and outdated anyway. A and B were also used as revision letters to cones
on certain models like the 2220 that is also an older type with less wattage tolerances for the voice coils.
An 'F' following a model number means it was supplied for a Fender amplifier cabinet. The fender types generally had a larger coil to magnet gap and higher gauss density,
but the reverse of that is the case on the D110F with less of an air channel gap. Therefore the D110F cannot be rekitted by a K-110 kit, even though the cone would fit.
The fender speakers usually tolerated more moving stress and dust as their magnets were often exposed to the environment.
The D110F was not the same build type, and we do not supply recone kits for it, although a perforated would be advised.
Speaker Acoustic loading - all speakers used for a more intense bass audibility effect used closed cabinets or ported ones. This is done to load the speaker. Ported is shared chamber acoustic loading.
Fully enclosed speakers intended to not leak air often have a white 'dope' applied to the linen surround to seal the air flow. We can supply this on request. Aoustic Loading may change the power factor.
Sub-woofers in pairs are loaded against each other, out of phase, to increase audibility of bass tones. We ask that all users be aware that loading speakers, while it makes them sound more full toned, it
is in reality changing the way the speaker sounds in ways peculiar to that cabinet, porting, phasing, room size (unless outdoors).
Our speakers sound just fine and should really be compared WITH other speakers in free air, without loading them, for quality purposes.
Because an enclosure produces both destructive interference and constructive interference, losses and additional bass dB pressures exist.
There is approximately a 6dB or 4 times possible magnitude of bass versus midrange loudness variations to consider when cabinets are used.
Therefore these days, most cabinets use some sort of software designing tools, even if mounting is on a 'baffle' or flat surface. There are no infinite baffles of course,
but this is one method very commonly seen in six string guitar speaker use because the emphasis is on quality of midrange sound, and almost no
actual very low frequency sound is worth the penalty paid to the midrange quality. The authors personal bias is to compromise. A perforated baffle or
a flat surface which covers the all too common 2 pi steradians speaker cone and dust cover assembly. However, if your preference is not novel sound but conformist to standards, you
would want to install our speakers into stock cabinets. Likewise many 6 string guitar players stay with tube amplifiers for many of these same reasons,
that is, midrange is optimized at some expense to bass and higher frequency sounds, but offers also a kind of automatic protection against unanticipated poor quality sound projection and quality.
At Kennedy Audio, we make innovation using novel solid state amplifiers and speaker assemblies possible, without compromising on consumer driven application concerns.
We can do tube amplifiers, preamplfiers, isolated inputs and cabinet builds and designs. Just ask us. Our prices are competitively driven.
When reading about horns, acoustic loading, porting, baffles and such, please bear in mind that for practical listening, you will need to have an array of many such units to hear much difference,
with the exception of the bass loading effect of more audible bass - but a piano does the same thing using a reflecing board with vibrates in sympathetic reaction and projects bass very well.
The point here is that the most commonly used techniques are not the only ones possible, and that if you must compare one of our speakers with a competitive brand, then set the unit
on a solid wood floor, preferably the second story or higher and a larger free span floor - to get the bass sound more audible. Watching the cone movement is another good way to judge speakers for bass quality.
To select either perforated polyimide Kapton or perforated anodized aluminum formers for high performance kits:
Kapton is heavier but the extra mass and thickness also tranmits heat better so may handle more power over the same time period without burnouts.
This applies more to woofers that TEND to have higher power ratings to begin with because smaller voice coils also
generate less heat and the threat of heat induced demagnetization is therefore less. However smaller coils have a reputation
of dissipating less heat at higher operating temperatures, so if you run speakers hot, Kapton snaps back from deformation without harm.
The one disadvantage of Kapton is that it can be warped by ExTreMe moisture or dryness. Highly moisture prone environments or very cold and dry ones should use something else.
The disadvantage of Aluminum, as long as we are on the subject, is that it is magnetically permeable, unlike Kapton, and thus it
can act as a magnetic shielding material at some frequencies and a scattering membrane at others, making it just unpredicatable for design reasons.
The higher the rate of change of the signal, the higher the voltage in the aluminum former material, which may be a source of distortion.
Neodymium magnets will lose their magnetic charge at about 300 degrees Fahrenheit and aluminum can crack in temperatures below freezing.
The magnetic field returns when Neodymium cools, but the output suffers from power compression during the heated part of the cycle time.
Paper has obvious disadvantages due to strength, recovery, heat tolerance, adhesive peel and shear strength and others.
Paper may sound nice in low power speakers and is often combined with Nomex or similar paper like substitutes. These however are much more
vulnerable to rough handling. For JBL speakers, the roundness of much larger former is almost perfect and could never be made with anything so likely to become out-of-round.
Paper and Nomex voice coils are often seen in voice coils of 5/8 inch diameter with very much larger shape and variation tolerance.
Of course many of the recone jobs we take in have very out of round deformed Kapton formers. This is due to uneven heat transfer more than
it is due to the rate of heat transfer itself or the elasticity and recovery or microscopic dust contamination. The deformation tends to happen at the coiled area and not
the perforated area where the Kapton is vented. Because diffusion is much easier on a flat surface the surface becomes a flat.
A coil 'rub' therefore translates to a flat spot on the former which is why you hear a noise in the speaker after it has overheated. This is related to clearances as much as weight, impedance, winding height and
the evenness of the transmission and its stress on surrounding material, called thermal diffusivity, to the hole area which is outside the magnetic field where the coil sits.
Rubs happen on the outside of the voice coil, where the gap between metal is much larger but the magnetic flux densities are very large.
A good speaker like JBL is not going to induce permanent magnetism (complete saturation) like some other hot-rod off brand names, but still is built to be
as sensitive as it can be, and so it relies on the builder of the box to allow enough ventilation, proper storage orientation, shipping and gentle handling.
The eddy currents and the heating of the pole piece by the magnetic flux are yet another source of warping of coils.
This effect is especially relevent to higher power subwoofers that may combine high induced coil flux and high permanent magnet flux.
However, for theater midrange speakers such as some of ours, the materials and methods used are considered a high art form, not commodities.
The fact that midrange and tweeters usually use higher flux densities than larger bass speakers do makes it a handwork trade.
While we sell our re-coned JBL's as original, for such special items as the AAHRAY, we make many very special modifications to be sure that our sets outperform all others.
From dust-proof cabinetry to waterproofing surrounds and cones, Hi-Phi modified flux magnets, double shorting rings and special poles, we begin at engineering and advance to scientific levels of proven quality and unheard of levels of professional improvements and re-designs.
Sound systems are a bit like an iceberg in this respect, what you see is only a bit of what there is - only it is upside down for now.
Our carbon fiber technique for instance helps guard against moisture warpage and using 3 inch coil on a 10 inch speaker is very rare but also old.
You have to consider that a new JBL speaker in the mid 1960's cost about $120, and that was something more like $2000 today. It all falls into perspective, but takes some reading and time to raise one's awareness.
Temperatures of coils that exceed 120 degrees centigrade are in the red danger zone. The diffusion distance varies with
the square root of time and the thermal boundry layer thickness is directly proportional to that quantity. Also the kinetic
energy diffusion (kinematic viscosity) is equal at all times approximately to the thermal energy diffusion Zt =SQRT(K/2ωCÏ)= SQRT(μ/Ï).
Both have units of cm/√sec which is essentially the diffusion distance or length. A good investment in equipment would be
an oscillator that keeps speaker cones moving for a few minutes after playing hot to allow them to cool down.
We may offer such a Kennedy Overheat Oscillatory Locomotor if we can spare time to build a few.
But don't hold your breath. Designing and building small items by hand may be what we do to make our mark, but if they
are easily replaced by competitors selling in volume into vertical markets, we must, alas, take a rain check.
In general, there are no materials that can give both strength and adhesion once temperatures exceed 100 degrees C. (boiling).
The thermal cycles alone will eventually render the materials they are bonding to warpage even if they only reduce somewhat from their as set properties.
“But when you want the best, there has to be some handwork involved.â€

Just to be sure - magnets that are dropped lose their ability to keep their magnetic field density declination angle.
In spite of this, anyone who wants JBL speakers done as best that they can be should seriously
consider shipping the actual speaker magnet and frame to us and let us do the entire refit.
Alnico magnets are made from a scarce mineral and endure time well, but just one advantage of
doing the refitting and repair this way is that we can check the magnetism and remagnetize speakers.
Such magnetic field regeneration should never be attempted at home. We have special facilities and training.
A discount is available on 4 or more recone kits. Because of availability please wait for email proforma statements or sometimes the paypal money request before paying.
A refund may be necessary due to difficulty in modifying paypal checkout procedures for shipping calculations, taxes and discounts..
For example we can ship the AAHRAY to California, to a business for $135 and to Pittsburg for $65 but if a lift gate truck for
residential delivery is required, there is an additional $60 local residential delivery charge.
We refund any overcharge and use California, the largest domestic delivery (actually LA) charge as a standard Paypal debit.
This refund would have $60 deducted for local delivery that is not direct business to business dock as noted above.
PRICES TO GERMANY ON 18 inch Speakers: Weight is 28 french pounds, 33 after packing. Delivery varies from $58 US to $65 US dollars.
Discounts on orders of more than 3 are possible due to combined shipping weights. Fast shipping costs $185 per speaker unit.
OUR CURRENCY EXCHANGE POLICY - these charges exist seperately from the policies of other internet services.
Therefore because we are charged at least 6 percent of the amount we do pass on this charge or fee which is another source of
our communication and internet presence requirements. Please be aware and help us communicate about foreign sales and services.
We try to respond quickly 24/7 but we are only humans working with time zone differences and our built-ahead inventoried assemblies.
For speaker voice coils other than 8 ohms, please email and ask about availability and lead times. Orders of 10 or more require month lenght lead times.
Coils can be made for 4, 6, 8 and 16 ohms, especially if ordered in larger quantities.
Please all users be advised that a 8 ohms coil is 8 ohms of alternating current. DCR is not as well related to the variable impedance of a coil.
Set multimeters to AC mode. DCR given on other web sites is the direct current resistance. There is no associated frequency, amperage or voltage.
Therefore DCR tends to always read the same and appears to be a constant, tending to give a halo effect to consistency in manufacturability.
Under DC voltage coils should read 6 ohms that are 8 @ 1000hz and likewise lower ohms than AC test current readout.
ALL coils are custom edge wound by Kennedy Audio using special proprietary wire, specially impregnated paper and precision structures.
ALL coils are connected with the higher quality silver wire lead pairs with high content silver solder when we recone them in house.
All special options are available in Buy It Now. Use shopping cart for larger quantities or for multiple item orders.
A large stock of 18 inch speakers is being rebuilt. These have been popular in Germany and exceed THX specifications.
THX uses 6 of these below a movie screen and 16 2245 drivers behind the screen with oversize horn waveguides (pillowed). Our shipping is FOB port, not door to door in Europe.
A list of ports we can ship to includes: Berlin Bremen Cologne Duesseldorf Franfurt Freiburg Hamburg Hanover Munich Nuremberg Saarbruecken and Stuttgart.
AAHRAY columns are 7-1/2 feet with finial removed. FOB door is available in Canada but not as parcel service for over 100 pound packages.
Some people prefer paper surrounds. Only the D120F 12 inch and D130 15 inch speakers had these originally. The D120F is not available.
The 15 inch paper surround is not as durable and long lasting, but we do have it in stock. Otherwise all surrounds are cloth.
The D refers to a paper surround, without it the same speaker becomes a E130 or a K130. All D120 cones must be made in-house and do require more lead time.
The price of $810 on the dual 10 inch with exponential bullet horn is based on free shipping and packing and insurance.
This is because sales on eBay usually require $100 shipping to California, $35 in packing material (We double box)
and insurance and then eBay seller fees of about 20 percent. If you want delivery in the Wisconsin area, we charge $100 flat fee
but the sale price is $675 free on board Hartford, Wisconsin. This comes out to be the same as $1200 per unit (2400 pair) when
all the other costs are added in to sell on the internet through intermediate clearing house style auctions and retailers.
This fact alone makes our web page one that you should add to your favorites or check back on every once in a while for deals.
The original exponential bullet tweeter sells on eBay for up to $300 and we will sell it here by email for $75 plus shipping.
You can use a 2123 10 inch cone to recone a K110 and if will have less pinging. Standard K110 uses aluminum dust caps.
You can also send in any speaker to be reconed. The cost is what you see below for the kit plus $15 in labor. You pay shipping costs both ways.
We can recone for such low cost amounts because our kits are already made and ready to drop in. So there is no spider gluing, surround glueing, wiring
harness attachment and voice coil attachment and glue times to deal with. All that overhead is already done and ready to ship.
All kits come with a shim - there is no shipping for 2 oz moyen black glue unless you order it by itself ($7 shipping)
Item 7 assumes you want a 12 inch blonde cork gasket. For other sizes the costs are less.
A fifteen inch gasket will run about 14. Again, either ask first or email for any refund due to overcharges.
Right now the cost of 12 inch gaskets has become high due to demand.
